… And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. (Hebrews 12:1 NLT)
Recently at a bible study with some friends, I was reminded once again that the bible sees us as runners in a race but sometimes we forget this and think of ourselves as referees officiating a race.
We, everyone of us has been called to run the race that is set before us and it is not part of our calling to referee how others are running their own race.
Just think how impractical it is to be in a race and at the same time be the referee of the race. While trying to run in your own lane, you will also have to keep an eye on everyone to make sure none is breaking the rules. To do this with any measure of effectiveness, you have to run back and forth in your own lane because all the runners are never at the same level. Invariably, you will end up wasting a whole lot of time and hardly ever concentrate on your own race.
Unless you are standing in the place of ‘contending for the faith’ against the incursion of heresy, the question to answer when we start judging the foibles of fellow runners is…
Who are you to pass judgment on and censure another’s household servant? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he shall stand and be upheld, for the Master (the Lord) is mighty to support him and make him stand. (Romans 14:4 AMP)
God help us all.
